Junya Watanabe MAN brings the American Midwest to Paris
By Alex James Taylor | Fashion | 25 January 2025

Despite taking place in a vast concrete room in the middle of Paris, the models at Junya Watanabe appeared to have been transported from the American Midwest, wearing classic Americana fits: check overshirts, workwear, selvedge denim, hunting jackets, trucker caps, wide-brim headwear, and manicured facial hair. While on foot, Heinrich Dinkelacker and Paraboot collabs brought a city smartness to each look, as did the shirt and tie combos beneath their outerwear. Those currently hooked on Yellowstone and Landman are already sold.

Imagery from the archives of traditional US brand Filson was plastered across the venue walls, and the brand’s iconic Mackinaw Cruiser jacket became a touchstone for the collection, reimagined in different fabrics, switching out the pocket details, and splicing it with parkas, overcoats and padded outerwear. Founded in Seattle in 1897 to outfit miners seeking their fortunes in the Alaskan Gold Rush, Filson is one of America’s most established heritage brands, renowned for its commitment to top-quality wool production – the same wool that went into crafting their Cruisers. This meeting of practicality and innovation no doubt appeals to Watanabe, who puts his own imitable spin on it all.
