Paris return
Taking over an apartment on the Seine designed by iconic French architect Auguste Perret, Jacquemus made its return to the Paris Fashion Week calendar. Pamela Anderson, Central Cee, Tems, Tyla and Nicholas Alexander Chavez were just a few of the names to note who sat front row, while an equally star-studded cast of models including Alex Consani, Christy Turlington, Irina Shayk, Adriana Lima and Mona Tougaard took to the runway. Fusing heritage with modern-day technology, Jacquemus’ mid-century-inspired collection – titled La Croisière – marked the first-ever fashion show to be filmed entirely on Apple iPhones (makes sense, it is the medium through which most people view runway shows in today’s age).
Delving into the back catalogue of Old Hollywood glamour, silhouettes were defined by 1940s-esque circle skirts, sensual bustiers and fishtail trains. The 1930s illustrations of Russian-French artist and designer Erté could be felt in hourglass dresses crafted from delicate cotton poplin, dropped waists melted into tulle skirts and the voluminous white organza-sleeved shirts paired with figure-hugging knitwear. Sharp-shouldered double-breasted blazers stood alongside heavily pleated trousers while tiny short shorts were worn with sweeping overcoats cinched at the waist. A simplistic colour palette was punctuated with monochromatic polka dots, zebra print and flashes of yellow or red. On foot, the brand continued its partnership with Nike, unveiling a new iteration of the Moon Shoe first released in 1972.
