Mini dresses + mega boots

Isabel Marant delivered a glamorous nod to the noughties

Soundtracked by a live performance from New York’s Blonde Redhead, last night Isabel Marant’s Y2K woman came strutting through the Palais Royal in motocross-inspired thigh-high boots and a sea of multi-pocketed stone-washed denim. With a focus on refashioning the essentials and dressing for the comfort of every day, it was a collection full of fuzzy mohair knits, leather overalls and cosy bomber jackets you never want to take off. While comfort may have been key, flirty floral dresses were contrasted with angularly tailored blazers and those aforementioned sweaters had their hemlines stretched just a couple of inches to become thigh-skimming mini dresses.

This season, the French house’s standout motifs were inspired by Persian carpets, seen throughout the collection in hues of burnt and neon orange, rich burgundy and metallic blue. The structured looks crafted in nylon and hefty leather worked in cohesive opposition to the softness of knitwear and the fluidity of sequins. It was a playful venture into the world of the noughties, and a Marant seal of approval on the revival of one of fashion’s most formidable decades.
