Kites and parachutes
Taking over the Mobilier National in Paris, the SS25 collection from Homme Plissé Issey Miyake was inspired by the wind. Titled Up, Up, and Away, many of the silhouettes were inspired by kites and the hardware of parachutes, whilst the materials were sheer and lightweight.
The collection’s first looks were dominated by a distorted plaid pattern, which the brand has called Windswept Plaid. Created by holding the print in strong wind to allow it to flutter in the air, resulting in a spontaneous plaid pattern, these looks displayed the colours and patterning that we’ve come to expect from the endlessly innovative Satoshi Kondo-era of Issey Miyake.
Speaking of innovation, whole new silhouettes were revealed such as a showstopping final look which took the form of a light-blue hooded coat, naturally in pleats, and worn open like the grandest of opera coats. Internal buttons suggest that it can be manipulated into numerous silhouettes but who wouldn’t want it to flow and billow as you make your way into your private box?
Elsewhere, muted tones were paired with a simple chicness, such as the earthy brown suit of Look #28 and the creamy shirt and waistcoat of Look #27. On foot, it looked like comfort was the mood of the moment with loafers, trainers and sandals being front and centre.
