Gucci SS25: all work, all play
By Barry Pierce | Fashion | 18 June 2024

One of the most exciting things about Sabato De Sarno’s runways for Gucci has been witnessing the designer become more comfortable with each collection. His very first collections focused on wardrobe basics, De Sarno introducing his paired-back style incrementally instead of all at once. Now, he’s a couple of collections in and you can really sense that he’s getting into the flow of things.

What immediately caught the eye in Gucci’s SS25 collection was De Sarno’s use of bright colours and loud patterns. His play on tropical shirts brought a sense of carefree fun to the runway that had really yet to be seen from the designer. The collection, which was a play on the city and the beach, work and play, clearly allowed the designer to let loose a little. His fringed shirts were another welcome moment of needed silliness on the often very self-serious Milan schedule.

Naturally with Gucci, the tailoring was the star of the show with suit jackets and long coats that looked immaculate. Pairing them with short shorts and trainers brought a fun faithfulness to the show’s work/play theme.
