Over exposure

As one of the most aesthetic diverse line-ups fashion incubator program Fashion East has ever presented, their show this season was a rollercoaster ride: from the football pitches of Ireland to the sweaty clubs of Lagos before landing firmly back in 2019 London.

While it might be Mowalola Ogunlesi’s first time showing with Fashion East, she’s been a name to know in London since launching her graduate collection in 2017, which was inspired by petrolheads from her hometown of Lagos and since been worn by everyone from Skepta (who was sitting front row) to Solange Knowles. This time she took her high octane aesthetic even further, with a provocative collection centred around the theme of exposure: in her own words, “whether that’s emotional exposure, showing your skin or becoming fully vulnerable”. Show skin she certainly did: there were barely-there miniskirts in patent leather with belt straps along the bottom, G-strings pulled up high above the waist, and bumster jeans aplenty. It was an electrifyingly fresh take on dressing for the club, with just the right dose of sleaze.
