Dial M for Mimi

Fashion East: Mimi Wade FW17

Mimi Wade loves a story, that much is evident. The British-American designer graduated her BA at Saint Martins and has blown up since, known for her love of a 50s silver-screen glamour that misbehaves. In the first act of her FW17 collection, a dusty dijon corduroy skirt suit under-layed with a bejewelled pie-crust collar, and a tie rebelliously worn short. With distressed lace finishing the sleeves and skirt hem, and playfully patched Pink Panther cartoon motifs, the scene had been set.

“Without realising it, I’ve designed an alternative school uniform” Mimi surmised. Bobby-socks drenched in sour lurex sat above low skate shoes; a juvenility offset by bias-cut silks and Sophie Hallete lace trimmed dresses, ushering in a touch of bygone romanticism. ‘Dial M for Mimi’ printed front and centre riffed on Alfred Hitchcock, rounding off the femme fatale of this candy-noir epic.
