Just imagine

Etro took us to ‘nowhere’ – a world without boundaries or restriction

Exit reality and smash the ‘imagination’ button. This was the instruction from Etro designer Marco De Vincenzo this season, who took us to ‘nowhere’, a place where columns of ancient temples emerge in the centre of a modern city, and “a curious civilization has suddenly resurfaced.”

A metaphor for fashion’s ability to rethink and reimagine beyond tangible boundaries, in this Etro world, eras, cultures and communities combine on newly forged paths. Western-style brocades and Texan boots mixed with oversized sci-fi leather jackets, and flocked velvet crop tops walked alongside striped beanies and fishtail silhouettes. The house’s exquisite prints and fabrications were in full flow, sauntering next to grungey denim and Grecian goddess silhouettes as terrycloth fabrics transformed into exquisite capes, blurring notions of tradition and modernity. Throughout, patterns intertwine, decorating the body with octopus imagery: an ancient Mycenaean symbol for rebirth and good luck.
