Animen: Rebooted

Etro asks the vital question: which animal are you?

Back in 1997, Etro released one of its most iconic fashion campaigns. Shot against a simple green backdrop, the models were captured from the waist up, wearing silky Etro blouses and neck scarves. What set the images apart, however, was that each model’s head was replaced with that of an animal. As a result, the outfits were modelled by a goat, an owl, a pheasant, and a bunny rabbit.

For FW26, Etro has revisited this legendary campaign. Titled Animen: Rebooted, the collection’s show notes spoke of how “facial features lend themselves to infinite animal associations, based on ways of being, character, and personality.” Marco De Vincenzo isn’t wrong here, it feels like we all only just survived rat-boy summer.

For his latest collection, however, he sharpened this idea, leaning fully into animalistic associations while balancing classicism with playfulness. Silk shirts, knit jumpers, and soft jackets featured prints of the 1997 campaign rendered directly onto the garments. Paisley was another dominant motif throughout the collection, often printed on velvet and spanning pyjamas, robes, jackets, and trousers. The colour palette remained fittingly forest-like, with deep greens, woody browns, and earthy neutrals grounding the collection.
