60s spirit
Antony Armstrong-Jones was a man known as much for his portrait photography as for his playboy lifestyle. In 1960, he married Princess Margaret, through whom he inherited the title Lord Snowdon. Yet his central place within the Royal Family did little to curb his status as one of the mid-century’s most sought-after society and portrait photographers, capturing iconic images of everyone from his famous in-laws to David Bowie and Terence Stamp. An undisputed style icon, Lord Snowdon serves as the central figure around whom Simon Holloway has constructed Dunhill’s FW26 collection.
Revealed via a presentation during Milan Fashion Week and immortalised in a campaign shot by Ethan James Green, the FW26 collection embodies both Lord Snowdon’s personal style and his photographic eye. Rendered largely in shades of grey, the collection places a distinct emphasis on 1960s style and tailoring. Cropped fur trench coats were paired with black leather driving gloves, while woollen blazers were worn over high-necked cashmere jumpers. Elsewhere, the collection makes a compelling case for tight neck scarves, cravats, drooping dickie bows, and a well-curated rotation of pocket squares.
Very much a day-to-night offering, the eveningwear portion featured white blazers accented with lapel pins; velvet jackets paired with plaid trousers; and single-breasted tuxedo suits styled with teddy-bear fur coats and suede shoes.
