Greatest hits
For Demna’s final Balenciaga ready-to-wear collection (in case you missed it somehow, he’s heading to Gucci), the Georgian designer was, naturally, feeling nostalgic. In the collection’s adjoining press release, he wrote that the Spring 2026 collection “combines pieces from 35 different collections with new pieces and garments from [his] personal wardrobe.” Later on, he describes the collection as a homecoming.
In many ways, this final 48-look collection plays like a greatest hits. And rightly so. Whether he was to your taste or not, Demna’s tenure at Balenciaga was groundbreaking. He proved that in fashion, nothing is sacred. He took a storied French house and redefined its entire brand. More brands could stand to loosen the reins and let new voices fully realise their visions in the way Balenciaga allowed Demna to do.
Throughout the collection, Demna revisits many of his signature styles: exaggerated silhouettes, chaotic layering, delightfully bizarre footwear, and elevated streetwear codes. There’s even a Britney Spears collaboration, with her most iconic portraits printed across t-shirts and accessories.
Demna has one final collection to go, a couture offering that will debut alongside a resumé exhibition, Balenciaga by Demna, curated by the designer himself. The farewell festivities are only just beginning!
