Streetlight spotlight
In previous seasons, Burberry transported us beyond the city and into the depths of the English countryside, Daniel Lee sidestepping the hustle and bustle in pursuit of that particular shade of calm found as a train slowly pulls away from King’s Cross. For Winter 2026, however, Lee returned to London rejuvenated and ready to go out out. A collection dedicated to “going out in a particularly London way,” it celebrated the ritual of locking your phone away in a small bag at the door and dancing deep into the night, free of inhibition.
The show took place at Old Billingsgate Market and, only a short distance away, Tower Bridge was illuminated with its usual drama – a distinctly London backdrop for arrivals. Inside, the bridge appeared again, deconstructed and dramatically reduced in scale, yet still dominating the space. Underfoot, the floor was rubber, scattered with resin puddles that caught the overhead lights, reflecting them like streetlamps shimmering on rain-soaked streets. For the soundtrack, BBC Radio 1 DJ Benji B hit up FKA twigs for a soundscape collage drawn from her recent Grammy-winning album Eusexua.
The collection’s palette was dungeon dark. Pitch blacks met inky, iridescent blues and rich burgundys. There was a distinct focus on leatherwear – full leather boilersuits had a kinky biker edge, wool check coats were cinched with belts and finished with leather lapels, and entire two-piece suits were cut from leather.
There was, of course, plenty of outerwear, because how could anyone go out in London without a massive coat? Trench coats had ruffled collars, while numerous volumes of shearling were draped around necks. Beneath it all, sleek satin dresses were ready to wow on the dancefloor, but for now, they were enveloped beneath the coats as the models hopped from taxis into the night.
On the runway, friends of the house Romeo Beckham, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Sora Choi walked. While the front row was a who’s who of celebrity – Tom Blyth, Nia Archives, Simone Ashley, Skepta, Patsy Kensit, Little Simz, Noah Jupe, Pink Pantheress, Stellan Skarsgård, the list goes on.
