Charles Jeffrey’s SS24 show was LOVERBOY regality: past, present and future

The pageantry was out in force, as it always is, with Charles Jeffrey’s SS24 collection for LOVERBOY. The title of the show was These New Caroleans, a reference to our recently ushered-in new era under King Charles III. Jeffrey, the jester of British fashion, had a lot of fun connecting the current Carolean period with the last, which was during the 1660 Restoration. Ruffled collars, ostentatious three-point hats and suits of armour were the order of business, all of them reworked through Jeffrey’s queer eye.

This collection also saw Jeffrey playing with AI. Many of the patterns that appeared on the outfits were AI generated and, strangely, they all felt so iconically Charles Jeffrey, as if his mind has always been a match for a machine. Elsewhere, Jeffrey’s collaboration with Wedgwood brought us some stunning, bespoke armour pieces adored with jasperware that were conceptualised as an offering of protection as we go forward into this new Carolean age.

A special shoutout is warranted, too, for the sunglasses in this collection. With their snake-eye motifs extremely reminiscent of Amanda Donohoe’s lady of the manor/snake goddess in The Lair of the White Worm, we hope this is the beginning of more reptile chic in the world.
