Jazz in the parc
The Amiri jazz club is in full swing, and Mike Amiri has set the rhythm. Today’s show: Amiri SS25, set to a live open-air score by The Yussef Dayes Experience, the band fronted by the incredible British drummer and composer. Known for his neo-jazz and classical sound, Dayes’ practice tunes in with Mike Amiri’s – two talents riffing classicism on a contemporary beat. “This collection is a continuation of an American conversation,” said Amiri, “a reflection of American luxury, of the Hollywood DNA of Amiri… It’s about Modern Jazz – meaning both the music, and an attitude.”
A sense of performance is inherent to Amiri, and shines across sequinned pinstripe blazers, languid free-flowing tailoring, and bursts of shimmering embellishment. Hollywood is the brand’s home, and its cinematic spirit is echoed by 70s pointed collars, modern tuxedo silhouettes, embroidered silk scarves and mid-century crossover pearl fastened ties. Tan suede jackets, slim-flared denim and open-collar floral shirts were Miles Davis hits, while Americana knits played Chet Baker. A drum fill, a melody change. ‘Jazz Hideaway’ tees were merch for the best club you’ve never been to, and look 46’s glistening blush (a tone inspired by the interiors of LA theatres) suit was star power distilled in tailoring. This season’s bag was a cross-body snare drum with a guitar pick hardware clasp, ensuring that we all walk to the beat of our own drum.
