Ami creates an incredible SS22 neon-lit funfair

“There is something magical about going to the funfair; summer is in the air, and suddenly mystery turns into something sensual, exhilarating and charged.” And so Alexandre Mattiussi, founder and creative director of AMI, built his own funfair setting titled L’Échappée Belle (translation: the great escape). Assembled inside a vast Parisian venue, bumper cars whizzed around while models lost themselves in mirror mazes and a neon ferris wheel spun overhead.

The kind of thing every kid – and let’s be honest, adult – dreams of, this impressive setting proved the ideal backdrop for a collection that screamed celebration, escapism and fun. Oversized tuxedo jackets were drawn in vibrant shades of fuchsia, aqua and bright green, existing somewhere between a circus ringmaster and an Elvis Vegas residency, while tie-dye prints brought a Stateside coolness to AMI’s Parisian DNA. Collegiate polos spoke of youthful bliss and utilitarian vests of adventure. Amongst the joyride was a sensual trip, with chainmail tops, leather bralets and plenty of sheer fabric, elevating the funfair from childish day out to late-night date night. Take the ticket, enjoy the ride.
