Rebel yell
“Yves felt just right for the collection,” said Acne Studios designer Jonny Johansson, whose FW24 season was photographed on and inspired by the US musician. “When they are on stage, it’s incomparable, it’s hard to find real performances like that. It feels scary and lovely at the same time.”
Echoing Yves Tumor’s multi-faceted output, the collection itself riffed on a rebellious seduction. Meshing together subcultural tropes, acid neons clashed with biker chains, camouflage, punk tartan and cyber logos. Tough guy motorbike graphics were subverted into spray paint angel wings and AI-generated cats, while staples pinned through garments gave a DIY nod. Twisting the cute badass, bows were rendered in hard metal, and fur hats with cat ears and scarves inspired by Kawaii street culture were worn with skin-tight jeans adorned with zips, rips and home-sewed bandana embellishments. There was a lot going on, but it felt right, it felt alive.
