Prada taps cult director Pedro Almodóvar for its FW17 campaign

Prada’s latest FW17 campaign celebrates the world of cinema, as the cult director Pedro Almodóvar stars as the protagonist in the latest chapter of the house’s 365 series.

Photographed by Willy Vanderperre, each image is laden with an implied narrative, creating a complex and layered backstory. Visually, he captures Almodóvar’s transition from director to protagonist in the short film, Auteur. Hit play below.

Drawing from his previous experience as an actor, Almodóvar uncharacteristically appears centre-stage, displaying a sense of uncertainty as he is seemingly caught off-guard. Set against the backdrop of the Prada FW17 showspace, imagination and reality merge to create a series of striking images.

Interestingly, the resulting visuals resemble stills from an incomplete film, evoking the fragmented nature of the artistic thinking process. As the “Almodóvariano” experience collides with Prada’s world, the campaign elegantly showcases their shared artistic obsessions and the power of their visions.
