Get up, stand up

Versace and Bruce Weber promote messages of love and equality

Shot by legendary photographer and longtime collaborator Bruce Weber, Versace‘s new FW17 campaign celebrates strength, unity and hope.

Throughout her work, Donatella Versace has always promoted these ideals. You only need to think back to her FW17 womenswear show and you’ll recall the LCD screens flashing “EQUALITY” and the words “LOVE”, “UNITY,” “STRENGTH” and “POWER” printed across various pieces in the collection.

And these positive messages extend to the corresponding imagery, released today. Featuring Barry Lomeka, Barak Shamir, Filip Wolf, Saul Rodriguez, Alpha Dia, Valentine Rontez, Tristian Thevenot and Michael Gioia, the menswear campaign sees models raising their hands together in a sign of strength and harmony, representing “a pure expression of the brotherhood of Versace.”

While the accompanying womenswear imagery sees Gigi Hadid, Mica Arganaraz, Taylor Hill and Vittoria Ceretti wearing the house’s FW17 collection.

“The message of this campaign is clear and direct,” said Donatella Versace. “It is about the unity, love and togetherness that we all need, no matter who we are or where we come from.”

Bruce Weber echoed Donatella’s sentiments: “After talking to Donatella about what’s happening around the world today, we wanted to do photographs of people standing up for something – some cause that would help other people. So the campaign for us was about a protest for peace and the connection we all need to have for each other.”
