Shia LaBeouf moves his anti-Trump artwork to New Mexico
By Tempe Nakiska | Art | 20 February 2017

Shia LaBeouf has relocated his Donald Trump protest art project to New Mexico, after his original New York stream was shut down. The livestream artwork, titled He Will Not Divide Us, is a protest against the President of the United States, inviting members of the public to stand in front of a wall-mounted camera and state the word, “He will not divide us”.

LaBeouf, Nastja Säde Rönkkö and Luke Turner set up the installation at El Rey Theater, Albuquerque, on Saturday night following its closure at the Museum of the Moving Image in NY on 10th February. The museum cited “serious public safety hazards” as the reason for closing the project, which was planned to run for four years or the duration of the current presidency. On the 26th January, LaBeouf was arrested at the site of the livestream after allegedly tussling with a man who said “Hitler did nothing wrong” on camera.

The project’s website has been updated with the new location, and states:

“Open to all, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the participatory performance will be live-streamed continuously for four years, or the duration of the presidency. In this way, the mantra “HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US” acts as a show of resistance or insistence, opposition or optimism, guided by the spirit of each individual participant and the community.

On February 10, 2017, the Museum of the Moving Image abandoned the project.

On February 18, 2017, the project relocated to a wall outside the El Rey Theater, Albuquerque.”

LaBeouf, Nastja Säde Rönkkö and Luke Turner have been collaborating since 2014, with previous projects including the high profile meditation on celebrity, The Metamodernist Manifesto.
