Camper creative director Romain Kramer has unveiled his new mod-inspired SS17 pre-collection for the Spanish footwear brand.

Titled Cosmo, the collection references Mondrian’s iconic neoplastic works. Cast in that signature de stijl colour palette of only black, white and primary colours, the new offering follows the movement’s mantra of reducing form and simplifying design to its core values.

As part of the modernist movement – alongside other Dutch artists including Theo van Doesburg – Mondrian created a new visual language that went on to influence wider culture, from The White Stripes’ strict dress code, to Yves Saint Laurent’s 1965 Mondrian collection, featuring six cocktail dresses based on the works of the pioneering artist.

Boasting a new shoe design, the Nixie, alongside Camper classics like the Spray sandal and the espadrille-inspired Mateo, the brand’s latest collection references this modernist approach via colour blocking and subtle futuristic nuances.
