Wild thing

The Chapman brothers design a sinister safari for Louis Vuitton

Think back to Louis Vuitton‘s SS17 men’s show and you’ll undoubtably remember those special pieces featuring designs by the Chapman brothers – how could you forget? Influenced by Artistic Director Kim Jones childhood growing up in Africa, the designer recruited art’s enfants terribles duo to add their sinister aesthetic to the mix. Cue trippy bug-eyed safari animals such as elephants, giraffes and zebras.

“There’s always something a little London hidden somewhere, though. This time it is the influence of punk – albeit via Africa, where Frank Marshall’s Renegrades portrait series of Botswana biker gangs in heavy leather depicts the fusion of two disparate aesthetics. Add a third, the French elegance of Louis Vuitton,” Jones said about the SS17 collection

Now, the storied French house has once again tapped Jake and Dinos Chapman, this time to help design a special pop-up inside London department store Selfridges. Showcasing the Pre- SS17 Collection and the SS17 Show Preview (from the 15th December), the ground floor pop-up continues the safari and punk themes explored in the collection. Impossible to miss, the Chapman brothers’ dragon-like giraffe design has been realised as a looming sculpture looming over shoppers – think Guillermo del Toro meets David Attenborough – and the whole interior is plastered with the duo’s wild creatures.

The pop-up will run until 15th January.
