Work your way through Frank Ocean’s favourite movies
By Joey Levenson | Film+TV | 24 August 2016

Amidst the internet’s current obsession over Frank Ocean’s myriad of musical drops, the artist released an exclusive zine, Boys Don’t Cry (which is now sold out, everywhere), that details the making of his sophomore album. And for those of you who haven’t managed to get your hands on a copy, Genius has reported that Ocean lists his favourite films in the zine, all of which allegedly influenced his writing in the Blonde album.

Nods to his film obsession are dotted around Ocean’s lyrics, from Novacaine’s Eye’s Wide Shut reference (“I’m feeling like Stanley Kubrick, this is some visionary shit/Been tryna film pleasure with my eyes wide shut”) to “Twin peaking” in his new track Rushes. Whilst not exactly the Sight & Sound’s Top 100 films list, take a look at Frank’s (very personal) picks below and try and work your way through them. Then when you get to meet him you’ll have conversation topics sorted.
