Acclaimed menswear designer John Varvatos is teaming up with the brand new Westfield World Trade Centre in New York City to unveil both his new store and the architecturally-groundbreaking shopping centre. The shopping centre (built in the ground zero space nearly fifteen years after the devastating 9/11 attacks) is finally ready to unveil itself to the people of NYC, and John Varvatos is joining the commemorations.

Marking the grand opening, Varvatos has collaborated with Westfield World Trade Centre to bring a digital exhibition featuring the works of artist and photographer Karsten Staiger. Staiger’s stunning photos capture NYC at night from the top of the city’s frighteningly high rooftops. To promote the shopping centre’s impressive technology, the digital exhibition will be showcased across their state of the art digital signage network, which is composed of nineteen incredibly large format screens with over 25 million (yes, 25 million) LED pixels and a 91 metre screen beneath the base of One World Trade Centre. The exhibition will run from 16th August through to the end of September.

Varvatos, who started his career in NYC, said that the collaboration between the exhibition and the new shopping centre “represents a strong message of love to all the lives lost and effected by 9/11” and hopes to “celebrate [the] city with Karsten’s striking imagery.”

Regarding the designer’s new boutique in the store, we will see Varvatos’ signature style of glazed brick and antique-finished artisanal design. As a designer who personally picks out every little detail of his worldwide stores, this latest space will certainly be a personal and stylish experience. And just to prove this, he’s teamed up with Rock Paper Photo to decorate the walls with a well-curated selection of images of home grown talent (including Ramones, Blondie and Kiss).  Photographs of the Clash, David Bowie and the Rolling Stones performing live in New York City will also be there to add to the shop’s eclectic feel.
