Alt-J drummer Thom Sonny Green is just over a week away from releasing his debut solo album, High Anxiety, and today we premiere the latest track from the record.

Titled Blew, the track encapsulates the darker undercurrents of the album, ominously tapping and whirring into a distorted, alienating space. Paired with strings and the glitchy red treescape of an accompanying video, it’s exactly 4.09 minutes of unsettled intensity.

Out 19th August, High Anxiety is the product of three years of writing while on the road with Alt-J, the outfit Green plays drums for. Consisting of 21 entirely electronic and instrumental tracks, its a stark step outside the indie pop circle Green is otherwise associated with. Influenced by the likes of Radiohead, Arca, Deftones and Clams Casino as influences, Green has created a disquiet spectrum of sounds that come together as their own symphonic journey.

Today’s release is the latest in a series of weekly track premieres in the lead up to the album, each accompanied by a video made by East London visual artist Nichola Farnan. Listen to Blew, then check out a couple of our other picks so far.

‘High Anxiety’ by Thom Sonny Green is out on 19th August on Sudden Records.
