Antibirth
Still, ‘Antibirth’ (2016) dir. Danny Perez
Have you ever wondered what an indie long-feature film would resemble if it involved drugs, horror, alien conspiracies and enough blood to paint the town red three times over? Well, Danny Perez first feature film’s Antibirth – which premiered in the Midnight section of the 2016 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year – sure fits the bill. Starring Orange Is The New Black star Natasha Lyonne and indie-film queen Chloë Sevigny as self-destructive junkies, this new release will have you laughing and puking in tandom.
Essentially the story of a Mary of the modern age, Lou (Lyonne) wakes up from a rather turbulent night to find she’s been miraculously impregnated and pairs up with depraved partner-in- crime (Sevigny) to try and find out what the heck is going on – think Fear And Loathing meets Goosebumps with a colour palette Gregg Araki would approve of.
