MCM taps German contemporary artist Tobias Rehberger for an anniversary collaborative installation
By Lewis Firth | Fashion | 30 March 2016

MCM celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. German contemporary artist, Tobias Rehberger, has collaborated with the leather brand (of the same nationality) to celebrate this milestone, producing a limited-edition line-up of accessories and an eye-popping installation with killer graphics – an interpretation on the MCM logo.

“This collection is about the history of MCM, how MCM has created a strong brand ID by making patterns that only consisted of logo repetitions all over a bag,” Tobias Rehberger explained. “I played around with that idea and reinterpreted it with a redesigned MCM logo rendered in stripes. Instead of repeating the logo as a pattern, I decided to print only one big logo all over the bag.”

Backpacks, pouches, wallets, carryalls and clutches are present in the capsule collection, inspired by fearless Munich kids who wore the brand’s bags back in the 70s and 80s. Be warned: the collab is a limited-edition with only 250 productions of each style. Get in fast.

The collection is available worldwide now from selected MCM stores and multi-brand outlets. For more information, visit MCM
