Nothing like a new Saint Laurent campaign to brighten those post-weekend blues. The FW16 collection is today brought to life with the release of the corresponding visuals, shot by Hedi Slimane in Los Angeles.
The photos were taken on stage at The Palladium in Hollywood, the famed music venue where the show took place in February.
It was a mighty moment for Saint Laurent, breaking from its usual closing night at Paris men’s fashion week and paying tribute to LA’s music scene. Soundtracked by psych band PyPy, it highlighted the city as a hot bed for rising sonic talent.
Tying back to Slimane’s enduring love of America – and specifically West Coast youth culture – the show was a homecoming of sorts, while the clothes referenced the pioneering rebellion of Yves Saint Laurent himself. Marking the 50th anniversary of Rive Gauche, Slimane harked back to the bohemian glamour that inspired the line, and the democratic new fashion era it heralded.
Worn by a gang of boys and girls including Lili Sumner, the campaign embodies the rock ’n’ roll- edged excellence that surged at the show, and from every piece itself.
