Paul Smith opens a replica of his first ever Nottingham store, in the new Dover Street Market
By Lewis Firth | Fashion | 24 March 2016
Paul Smith has occupied the basement of Dover Street Market’s new location in Haymarket with a replica of his first ever shop in Nottingham, which he opened in 1970.
Dover Street Market’s allure lies in its pronounced and encouraged diversification of its concessions: brands, within their allocated spaces, can position fixtures and installations – whatever they like – to represent their overarching image. Which is apt for Paul Smith considering his first store in Notts was only 3×3 metres, mimicked here with the same dimensions, memorabilia and objects to reflect a market-stall vibe. Modularity is embraced too with fixtures that can shift and change with ease dependent on the space’s contents – like Meccano.
