London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts will be holding a panel discussion on Friday about the importance of theatrical creativity.
Four distinguished experts in the field of performance will be in conversation: Nicholas Ridout, published writer and Professor of Theatre at Queen Mary University; Sarah McCrory, Curator and Director of Glasgow International (considered the most powerful woman in the art world); Lois Rowe, artist and Programme Director at Wimbledon College of Arts; and Marvin Gaye Chetwyn, a visual artist who specialises in representing concepts of cultural and historical significance through her work, which have been exhibited in both the Tate and Saatchi.
Improvised performances are considered as direct products of the social and institutional constructs that aim to constrain and contain; these notions will act as signposts for the discussion. Many interventions, innovations and contentious subjects have been executed through the medium of performance – chattin’ about its relevance within a capitalist and globalised world will be a compelling listen.
The panel discussion will be held at 5:30pm, 19 Feb. More information can be found on the ICA website. Tickets can be purchased here.
