Gosha Rubchinskiy tributes cult Russian artist Timur Novikov with his new collection

For his SS16 collection Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskiy looked towards the late Nonconformist artist Alexander Rodcheko and his constructionist approach. Now comes the announcement of an exclusive Dover Street Market capsule collection from Rubchinskiy, inspired by cult Russian artist Timur Nivikov.

A pioneer in Russian underground subcultures the artist founded and led the ‘New Academicians’ movement which dominated the St Petersburg art scene in the 1990s, bringing together music, art and visuals. It’s a trait that resonates with Rubchinskiy’s own holistic approach, an ongoing dialogue exploring what it means to be young and Russian through clothes, art, music, skate… life itself.

In the capsule collection the designer, photographer and artist in his own right plays with five designs from Nivikov’s iconic 80s series Horizons. Adorned on t-shirts, sweatshirts and caps, the iconic imagery is fused with Rubchinskiy’s own aesthetic.
