Bottega Veneta have recruited Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki for their latest SS15 advertising campaign, shot in Tokyo.

The next step in the house’s ongoing Art of Collaboration project, Araki joins an illustrious line up including Ryan McGinley, David Sims, Sam Taylor-Wood and Annie Leibovitz. As one of the most celebrated photographers in the world Araki’s name is a major coup for the Italian house. His inexhaustible creative energy is attested to by his prolific output, he’s released more than 450 photo books – no mean feat.

With a gaze fixed towards the more provocative subject matter Araki’s work often stirs up controversy, yet his attitude remains uncompromising. Erotically charged, his work play on traditional Japanese rituals, reinterpreting them in a manner as equally beautiful as it is seductive.

“More than simply provocative, Araki’s images have a powerful honesty and human poignancy that make them unforgettable,” said Creative Director Tomas Maier in a release. “He has his own visual language, which I was very excited to see translated to the SS15 collection.”
