Last night, Chopova Lowena cut the ribbon on its first-ever bricks-and-mortar retail space. Dubbed the Chopova Lowena Clubhouse, the new East London outpost acts as a meeting house for the brand’s ever-growing community.

Located on Teesdale Street, the space is a portal into the design duo’s eclectic world. Every corner is crammed with the details that make Chopova Lowena so unique: custom furniture made by designers Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena-Irons in collaboration with David Pringle – designer, art fabricator and Emma’s partner – includes Polish pine cupboards hiding fantastical details, while peephole video screens reveal Chopova girls from other dimensions. Found trinkets are scattered across the walls, from baby face ceramics to thrift shop artwork, alongside a vintage Bulgarian tapestry on display in the dressing room. Handwritten secrets are pinned to the walls, with pens inviting visitors to add their own, while dolls hang from the fixtures, a bronze plaque pays tribute to ‘Doggie’, and shelves are populated by a troupe of woollen pets.

Then there’s the Skirt Bar, a shrine to the brand’s signature silhouette plastered with vintage stickers – including Mr Men, Rugrats and Mickey Mouse – where visitors can build their own Chopova Lowena skirt, rifling through drawers filled with belts, buckles and textiles. And, naturally, every clubhouse needs a mascot. Enter Petal, the latest addition to Chopova Lowena’s cast of characters, a folky, goth girl who adorns tees, bandanas and stickers.
