Two of a kind
It takes two to tango and two to run one of Milan’s hottest contemporary fashion houses. Dsquared2’s latest campaign keeps the spotlight on its founding fathers, identical twins Dean and Dan Caten.
Rather than tracing the story of a collection, Back to the Roots unfolds like a family album, tracking the twins as they grow up through the years through their personal photographs; from toddlers sharing a rocking horse to inseparable young men, arms slung around each other. Through it all, one thing is clear: whatever the fashion industry throws at them, the Catens stand side by side.
“We wanted this campaign to reflect who we truly are, which is why we chose deeply personal photographs that genuinely represent us,” say Dean and Dan Caten. “Dsquared2 would never have existed without the unwavering support we’ve given each other since we were kids. This campaign is our tribute to the past and our promise for the future.”
More than thirty years after founding the label, the Canadian-born, London-based duo are choosing to reveal their most authentic, vulnerable selves. The campaign follows an electric FW26 presentation in Milan, where guests were welcomed into a makeshift snowstorm, a nod to the twins’ hockey-loving, winter-embracing Canadian roots. Between the show and the campaign, the Catens seem to be leaning into a moment of family.
