Following Danny Boyle’s departure from the 25th instalment of Bond due to a number of ‘artistic differences’ regarding the script, a nail-biting interregnum has reached its conclusion following the news that Cary Fukunaga has emerged as the man to steer this tanker into calmer waters.

Fukunaga, who directed Beasts of No Nation and the hugely successful first season of True Detective, will be joined by veteran double-O screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who last week confirmed they will be re-joining the franchise after a dispute with Danny Boyle and his long-time script-writer John Hodge. Filming was initially due to begin this November, but since Danny Boyle’s withdrawal from the project Daniel Craig has agreed to a part in Knives, the new film from Star Wars director Rian Johnson, meaning the date has been pushed forward to March next year.

As well as his aforementioned projects, Fukunaga directed Michael Fassbender in the Oscar-nominated 2011 screen adaptation of Jane Eyre while more recently, he has produced and directed a new ten-part mini series for Netflix starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill. The dystopian tale sees two strangers drawn to a pharmaceutical trial out of desperate personal anguish, the trial they’re assured, will bear absolutely no side-effects.
