Posture/gesture
Simone Bellotti’s first campaign since taking the reins at Jil Sander has arrived. Photographed by Stef Mitchell, it centres on the question Bellotti asked himself while creating his debut collection: is it possible to take away while adding a personal signature?
Bellotti’s debut was one of the strongest collections of the season. His distinctly architectural approach to design aligned perfectly with the ethos of Jil Sander, resulting in a deeply desirable wardrobe.
A cropped jumper appeared as a recurring piece throughout the collection, paired with knee-length skirts and clean Oxfords. There was also a sensuality to a number of sheer pieces that revealed all, as well as slashed skirts that allowed skin to peek through. Shot in a minimal studio space, the campaign’s soft blues and off-whites reflect the clean cuts of the collection. The images are cropped close, the models gazing out at the viewer, while there is a distinct eroticism, skin peeks through garments, fingers feel out fabrics and disappear beneath.
“A curiosity for the body is what I am after,” Bellotti says of the campaign. “Posture and gesture as ways of communicating, clothes that invite to get close, that hide and reveal. Rationality and feelings.”
