freedom among the pines
The legendary photographer Tom Bianchi is best known for his Polaroid series Fire Island Pines, created between 1975 and 1983. In these sultry images, Bianchi captures Fire Island at the height of its cultural significance as a gay enclave, a refuge where predominantly queer men escaped to in order to both relax and revel. Now, Dsquared2 have teamed up with Bianchi for a pre-Spring/Summer collection that features many of these iconic images across an array of garments and accessories.
A collaboration with Bianchi makes complete sense for Dean and Dan Caten, who have always looked to queer pioneers to shape and influence their work. Across the collection, Bianchi’s images appear on t-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts. But in a typically Dean and Dan flourish, the collection also encompasses oversized shopping bags, boonie hats, swimwear, and trompe-l’oeil clutch bag that looks like a rolled up erotic magazine.
