Halloween special
Boo! Gotcha. Light your candles and gather round, we have a seriously scary story to tell you… It begins with a weekend so packed with thrills, chills, and questionable costume choices that only the brave will make it to Monday. Read on – if you dare.
That’s the red I want for my kitchen tiles!
This Saturday, Hackney’s cult cinephile gem The Nickel turns crimson for a rare screening of Dario Argento’s Deep Red (Profondo Rosso) – the 1975 giallo masterpiece that redefined horror’s visual language. When a jazz pianist witnesses the brutal murder of a psychic medium, he’s drawn into a surreal spiral of paranoia and mystery. Expect hyper-saturated lighting, razor-sharp tension, and a prog-rock soundtrack by Goblin that still hits like a fever dream.
Deep Red (Profondo Rosso) screens at The Nickel on Saturday 1st November 17:30 – buy tickets here.
Pull an all-nighter
As you’d expect, the Prince Charles Cinema is going all-out for Halloween with a mega all-nighter of horror heavyweights. Kicking off at 11:15pm, the madness begins with John Carpenter’s The Thing, before plunging into the extended cut of The Exorcist, The Shining, Suspiria, and finally – a bit of lightheartedness – The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. By the time the credits roll at 8:53am, you’ll stumble out into the daylight like the undead, caffeine in hand, wondering what the fuck just happened.
The movie marathon takes place on Friday 31st October –more info here.
Ghost Notes
A wail cuts through the night sky above Hackney – echoing down side streets until it finds you. It seeps under your skin, pulling you toward the Sebright Arms. You follow its pulse downstairs to the stage, where Big Sky Orchestra are deep in it – driving, rhythmic, and wild. It’s scary good. This Halloween, the brilliant British five-piece will be conjuring a special set of their signature new-age Americana and sun-soaked West Coast groove.
Big Sky Orchestra play Sebright Arms on Friday 31st October – tickets here.
Dance ’til you’re dead
Hide your expectations of quiet spotlighted stage relics, because this isn’t your typical ballet showcase. Somerset House’s latest showcase, Infinite Bodies, spotlights the trailblazing work of choreographer Wayne McGregor. Blending dance with tech – think AI-twisted limbs, motion capture ghosts, and kinetic light sculptures that stare back at you. Across a maze of multi-sensory installations, performances, and experiments, motion capture meets muscle memory, AI blends with choreography, and kinetic light sculptures stare back at you. It’s part performance, part lab test, and fully mind-melting. (PS. check out our interview with McGregor inside the new issue of HERO.)
Infinite Bodies runs until 22nd Febuary 2026.
