Worth a cruise: Prada pops up in Venice
By Alex James Taylor | Art | 1 September 2014

Following on from Prada’s mega poolside SS15 show, Miuccia has stuck with the aqua theme and announced a pop-up store dedicated entirely to menswear, located on Calle Larga XXII Marzo in Venice.

It’s an intelligent step that acts as a reminder that while the conservative denim SS15 collection did feel just as much about womenswear as it did menswear, the two universes remain just as powerful on their own – they’re just free to meet as Miuccia will have them. And in a city famed for being a unique and treasured repository of art, it’s also a nod to the artful foundations of the Prada empire.

Designed by long-time Prada collaborator, architect Robert Baiocchi, the store is located inside an elegant Venetian palazzo and boasts a total area of 90 square meters, all clad in Prada’s signature black and white checked marble flooring and green fabric walls. A range of all men’s ready-to-wear, bags, accessories and footwear are displayed upon lightweight polished aluminium display units.

The temporary space will be open to the public for nine-months. Seeing flight time from London to Venice clocks in at just two hours there’s no reason why you shouldn’t nip across to Italy for an intimately exclusive Prada fix. And while you’re at it, make sure you catch the Venice Biennale before it draws to a close in November. Now that’s a weekend.
