Thurston knows best
Thurston Moore has always lived at the vanguard of experimental sound – first as a founding member of Sonic Youth, then as a solo artist, and now as a tastemaker, label head, and lifelong champion of the underground (Moore’s upcoming book NOW JAZZ NOW, an illustrated guide for record collectors, is the latest feather to his bow). With his Daydream Library Series – an offshoot of the Ecstatic Peace Library – Moore and co-founder Eva Prinz have created a haven for emerging, boundary-pushing artists working at the edges of punk, noise, poetry, and avant-garde sound.
Here, Moore offers a glimpse into the label’s inner world with a handpicked playlist celebrating the raw energy and sonic diversity of Daydream’s roster. The playlist is accompanied by exclusive imagery captured during Moore’s recent solo performance at Oslo in Hackney.

All The Things by Devon Ross
“Devon is at work on her first full-length album and this track, which we released digitally earlier this summer, is hopefully on it.”
In My Arms by Big Joanie
“This is from the second album Back Home by London’s favourite black, feminist, punk band, and the music video (directed by Lydia Garnett) is joyously romantic.”
Enredados by Las Nubes
“Sometimes this gorgeous Miami grrrl band will record a tune with lyrics en español because so many things sound even more beautiful in Spanish.”
True Love Trajectory by Attawalpa
“This rad rock band are a new London discovery. We absolutely, positively adore lead singer Luis Felber’s song crafting, his lyrics and hooooo, his swoon-worthy Brit-accented vox, especially in this pseudo-lovesong.”
Absolute Phase by Xopher Davidson
“If you need to zone out for fifteen or so minutes, we recommend this piece of music by Bay-Area Northern Californian who goes by Xopher – a noted protége of Maryanne Amacher. Xopher recorded this and another longer track utilising vintage synths within the beloved music studios of Mills College in Oakland, California. Xopher builds his experiments in electronic sound from a basis in painting, photography, and film, and through an interest in electronic circuits, going back to building radios and homemade circuits as a kid.”
Relevant Campaigns by Schande
“This is a slower number on London band Schande’s debut full-length album, which is fully Jen Chochinov’s softest and most meditative moment on the album. There is something about the dreamy gentleness of this tune that makes a lot of sense for the world right now.”
Killer by Devon Ross
“We released Devon’s debut EP, Oxford Gardens, last year and, if we’re allowed to say, this is our favourite tune from that record, not only because it’s irresistibly catchy and makes us want to dance, but also it goes into a guitar shredder melting at the end, which is radically cool.
Fall Asleep by Big Joanie
“Jordan Peele licensed this tune for an awesome stop-motion animated Halloween film he directed called Wendell and Wild, which features an unbelievable soundtrack of black punk music. This song is from Big Joanie’s brilliant debut album Sistahs, and that entire album is the reason we started the Daydream Library Series record label.”
Rushed Rain by Seafoam Walls
“Jayan Bertrand – the impresario behind Miami moniker Seafoam Walls – had an idea to create his own genre of music, which is a Caribbean-style jazz/alternative shoegaze band, he calls “jazz-gaze” – and we are all ears for it. His music transports you to his subtropical paradise, where the walls are painted seafoam colour. Our Daydream Library released his debut full-length album XVI and I highly recommend that collection of songs.”
