Le Dix
In 1947, Cristóbal Balenciaga introduced Le Dix, his first perfume. Meaning “The Ten” in French, it referred to Balenciaga’s historical headquarters on 10 Avenue George V. To both honour the past and to look toward the new era that Balenciaga is entering, the house has unveiled ten new fragrances, including a “reverential reconstruction” of Le Dix. These new fragrances pay tribute to Balenciaga’s olfactory history and to Cristóbal himself, none more so than with the fragrance called Cristóbal, which is inspired by the founder and has a musky, oud profile. Elsewhere, fragrances with names like No Comment and To Be Confirmed suggest a playfulness that has come to define modern Balenciaga, while options like 100% promise to be unapologetically maximal in their intense profiles.

The flagship of these new fragrances is, of course, the rediscovered Le Dix, which began with a fifteen-year search by the House’s archivists, culminating in the rediscovery of a forgotten perfume bottle from 1947. The new fragrances are housed in an exact facsimile of that first Le Dix bottle with its original label.
The accompanying campaign, captured by British artist Katerina Jebb, who uses a scanning machine to create her images, is the perfect complement to Balenciaga’s mix of elegance and industry. Alongside the new fragrances, the campaign also features archive documents, such as Le Dix‘s original packaging, bottle design, and advertising, to further link back to the perfume that started it all.
