Zip up and shut up: The Haçienda rises in the latest offering from the longtime collaborators

Raf Simons x Fred Perry, the (T)enth Degree
By Alex James Taylor | 19 August 2014

Raf Simons and Fred Perry continue their creative relationship for FW14 with their tenth collaborative collection. Since the creative partnership’s initial FW08 offering the partnership has lost none of it’s potency, continuing to build upon their distinctive identity in tune with the zeitgeist.

Comprising of twenty-seven style and colour combinations the new collection reignites their shared fascination with the collision between fashion, music and culture of youth. Mod and Skinhead staples like bomber jackets and Harringtons translate Fred Perry’s subcultural heritage, whilst the Fred Perry wreath sits proudly upon striped woven shirts, buttoned sweats, chunky knitwear and lace knit sweater.

Iconic Fred Perry silhouettes play canvas to Simons’ modernist creativity as pieces are garnished with Peter Saville Haçienda-inspired striped patches (recalling Simons’ FW03 ‘Closer’ collection, an homage to Saville, featuring imagery from the famed Factory Records director / graphic designer’s archives). It’s all about asymmetrical lines and bold motifs on repeat.

In similar vein to last season’s Willy Vanderperre and Olivier Rizzo-produced campaign video, Simons has commissioned J&J to create a short visual celebrating the past ten seasons of Fred Perry x Raf Simons and marking a new chapter in their relationship.
