We’ve just had our first glimpse of Simone Bellotti’s vision for Jil Sander, but it isn’t what you expect. Teaming up with the Italian electronic musician Bochum Welt, the first product of this new Jil Sander era is an EP. Accompanied by a music video filmed across Hamburg, the birthplace of the Jil Sander brand, the video presents a “wanderlust tale” that captures the spirit of the city and its people.
This marks the beginning of a new era for Jil Sander and suggests that Bellotti will be turning the brand into something beyond a traditional fashion house. We’ve seen brands dip their toes into the world of music before, but debuting with an EP is something that feels new and distinctly now.
If you’ll recall, Bellotti made his move to Jil Sander after the resignations of Lucie and Luke Meier earlier this year. He moved to the brand after a short run at Bally, which he joined after sixteen years as a senior designer at Gucci. Bellotti will reveal his debut collection for Jil Sander in Milan this September.
