Saint Laurent’s new campaign features Christopher Walken, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Robert Mapplethorpe

For their Winter 2025 campaign, Saint Laurent have drawn direct inspiration from the work of Robert Mapplethorpe. Shot by Glen Luchford, the moody monochrome portraits of actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Christopher Walken echo Mapplethorpe’s unmistakable aesthetic through the styling and sculptural poses. Christopher Walken’s portraits, in particular, are a direct nod to Mapplethorpe’s famous self-portraits, capturing the same steely gaze as he stares directly into the lens.

Mapplethorpe’s connection to Saint Laurent runs deep, he photographed a campaign for the house in 1983. This latest campaign pays homage not only to his artistic vision but also to his personal style, which informed key elements of the Winter 25 collection. Standout pieces, such as the already-iconic thigh-high leather waders, were directly inspired by Mapplethorpe’s penchant for black leather and the seedy underbelly of his New York.
