Artistic portraits
The latest Saint Laurent womenswear campaign isn’t what you’d think. Instead of the usual photography format, Anthony Vaccarello has commissioned renowned Italian artist Francesco Clemente to create a series of portraits of actors Zoë Kravitz, Isabella Ferrari, and models Penelope Ternes and Ajus Samuel.
“I first discovered Clemente’s work in the 1990s,” said Vaccarello, “I could perfectly imagine my collection being portrayed by his poetic use of colors.” Through Clemente’s artistry, the Saint Laurent Spring-Summer 2025 collection takes new form, its sculptural angles and romantic, sheer fabrications reimagined through ethereal, expressive brushstrokes.

Born in Naples, Clemente’s journey has crossed mediums and cultures, exploring notions of identity and spirituality throughout. He studied architecture at the University of Rome before moving to India, collaborating with local craftspeople and painters, while also studying ancient Hindu texts. In 1981, the artist relocated to New York, where he would collaborate with Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol and Allen Ginsberg. Clemente’s work was also featured in Alfonso Cuarón’s film 1998 Great Expectations, and the artist even made a guest cameo as a hypnotist in Good Will Hunting.
