Having shook the fashion world last October with the news that he will be Hedi Slimane‘s replacement at Celine, the date for Michael Rider‘s debut collection for the house has been set. Taking place on July 6th, a notably off-schedule date, the Celine show will be a welcome return to the catwalk format that the brand eschewed during final years of the Slimane era – his last physical presentation was the epic Celine at Le Palace show for FW23.
Whilst we don’t know yet whether the show will be solely menswear, womenswear, or both, the press release announcing Rider’s succession did make the point that he will be in charge of “womenswear, menswear, leather goods and accessories to couture.”
All eyes will be on Rider’s debut. Notably, he previously worked at Celine under Phoebe Philo, an era vastly different from what Slimane brought to the table. Will he act as a middle ground between the Philo and Slimane years? Or will he usher in an entirely new aesthetic to Celine, comparable to Slimane’s shock departure from Philo’s aesthetic? We’ll have to wait and see.
