RIP Y/Project
It’s the end of an era in Paris this morning as the news has just broke that Y/Project is shutting down after fourteen years. The brand was founded in 2010 by Yohan Serfaty and Gilles Elalouf as a gender-neutral menswear line that focussed not on ready-to-wear trends but on timeless creations that would exist outside of “what’s in.”
Serfaty passed away in 2013, leading Glenn Martens, who had worked as Serfaty’s first assistant, to step in as creative director of the brand. The Martens years saw Y/Project become a success, both commercially and creatively, becoming a finalist for the LVMH Prize in 2016 and winning an ANDAM Fellowship in 2017. Martens remained creative director until he stepped down in September 2024, following the passing of Gilles Elalouf that summer.
In a statement on their Instagram, Y/Project said, “It is with great gratitude and sadness that the Y/PROJECT team announces we will be officially closing the brand after fourteen incredible years. We could not have achieved such success without the unwavering support of our Y/P partners, collaborators, and fans and we cannot extend enough thanks to you all for your unwavering dedication throughout the years.”
