After 11 years at Loewe, Jonathan Anderson is stepping down as its creative director, officially bringing to an end one of the most exciting and successful tenures in modern fashion.

Back when Anderson was appointed creative director in 2013, few people could have imagined that in just ten years the Spanish heritage label would be hailed as one of the hottest and most successful brands in the world. Before Anderson, Loewe had been a major brand needing a new lease of life. Anderson transformed it from being known primarily as a leather goods brand into one of the biggest brands in the world.

His very first collection for Loewe was a lookbook for Men’s SS15 which was inspired by a Steven Meisel shoot for Vogue Italia from 1997. His first Womenswear collection, and first runway, followed in September and it was immediately evident that we were witnessing something thrillingly new for Loewe. Many of the pieces from that first runway are instantly recognisable as distinctly “Anderson for Loewe”, such as a dress with random swatches of fabric pinned onto it and another dress that looks like it was made from torn-up bits of pink paper. In 2016, Anderson oversaw the launch of the Loewe Craft Prize, platforming design talent from across the world and celebrating artisan skills, while the designer also collaborated with filmmaker Luca Guadagnino on two occasions, creating wardrobes for 2024’s Challengers, and 2025’s Queer. This spirit of artistry filtered across Loewe’s campaigns, featuring creative talents who echoed his ethos, the likes of Josh O’Connor, Daniel Craig, and Dame Maggie Smith.

“While reflecting on the last 11 years, I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by people with the imagination, the skills, the tenacity and the resourcefulness to find a way to say ‘yes’ to all my wildly ambitious ideas,” said Anderson in a statement. While my chapter draws to a close, Loewe’s story will continue for many years to come, and I will look on with pride, watching it continue to grow, the amazing Spanish brand I once called Home.”
