Wow, a double move: Matthieu Blazy has been announced as the new creative director of Chanel, and Louise Trotter takes over at Bottega Veneta.
Let’s begin with Blazy, who succeeded Daniel Lee as Creative Director at Bottega Veneta in November 2021 having previously worked as ready-to-wear design director at the house. During his time at Bottega, Blazy has repositioned the brand through innovative fabrication and exquisite craft – his ability to manipulate leather to look like flannel, knitwear and denim will eternally amaze us. At Chanel, Blazy takes over from Virginie Viard, who worked at the Parisian house for more than 30 years under Karl Lagerfeld before taking the head role after his passing. Blazy said of his appointment, “I am thrilled and honoured to join the wonderful House of Chanel. I look forward to meeting all the teams and writing this new chapter together.”
In Blazy’s absence, Louise Trotter joins Bottega Veneta after joining Carven as Creative Director in February 2023 and previously working at Lacoste and Joseph. Trotter said: “I am deeply honored to join Bottega Veneta as Creative Director. The House’s storied legacy of artistry and innovation is truly inspiring, and I am excited to contribute to its future and celebrate its timeless vision.”
“I am pleased to welcome Louise as our new Creative Director,” says Leo Rongone, CEO of Bottega Veneta. “Her aesthetic seamlessly combines exquisite design with sublime craft and her commitment to cultural advocacy aligns beautifully with our brand vision. Through her sophisticated lens, Bottega Veneta will continue to celebrate its heritage while preserving modern relevance. I also want to express my profound appreciation for Matthieu, who has been an extraordinary partner in infusing our brand with desirability, emotional resonance, and intellectual identity.”
Following the news that John Galliano is leaving Maison Margiela, the designer roundabout continues to spin, with plenty of exciting debuts happening in 2025.
