Last night saw this year’s annual Fashion Awards take place at the Royal Albert Hall, celebrating the past year’s most acclaimed designers and momentous achievements in fashion.

For the second year in a row, Designer of the Year went to Jonathan Anderson for JW Anderson and Loewe, which was no great shock. Anderson’s move into the mainstream via his role as the costume designer for Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers and the forthcoming Queer has signalled a new era for the Irish designer. Balancing his film career with a full year of collections for both JWA and Loewe may single Anderson out as the busiest man in fashion.

The British Womenswear Designer Award went to Simone Rocha, who began the year with her incredible Jean Paul Gaultier couture collection. The popularity of terms like “demure” and “babygirl” in 2024 made Rocha the queen of the meme with little bows becoming an incredibly zeitgeist-y accessory, a style that Rocha has defined over the past decade.

The BFC Foundation Designer Award, which recognises a BFC Foundation initiative designer who has had a major impact on global fashion over the past year, went to Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena for Chopova Lowena. If the scenes at the Chopova Lowena sample sale recently were anything to go by, this has been an incredible year for the designer duo. How many designers could successfully pull of a Hellmann’s mayonnaise collaboration? Only Chopova Lowena.

Marco Capaldo of 16Arlington won the New Establishment Womenswear Award after a strong year for the brand, and Priya Ahluwalia picked up the New Establishment Menswear Award.

Also on the night, the legendary Stephen Jones won British Accessories Designer and Nan Goldin and Gucci received the Special Recognition Award.

For the guests, it was a night packed with performances from Chloe and Halle Bailey and Wizkid, while the one and only Debbie Harry performed Heart of Glass and I Feel Love in honour of Nan Goldin’s Special Recognition Award for Gucci’s We Will Always Have London campaign.
