Puddle of blood
Throughout their history, Chopova Lowena have drawn their influences from folklore, from the ancient pagan celebrations of Helston’s Flora Day festival in Cornwall to the traditional Bulgarian fabrics that make up their iconic kilts. For Halloween, we asked the designer duo – Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena-Irons – to tell us their favourite scary movies. Spoiler: Laura struggled to pick one, Emma struggled to pick just one. Below, the pair offered up a suitably chilling selection, including Freddy Krueger, a Michael Haneke classic and some 00s British horror.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) dir. Wes Craven
Laura Lowena-Irons selects A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) dir. Wes Craven and Let The Right One In (2009) dir. Tomas Alfredson
Laura: After the trauma of watching A Nightmare on Elm Street when I was nine, I have tried to steer clear of horror movies. But if I had to choose, I would say Let The Right One In.
Emma Chopova selects Funny Games (2008) dir. Michael Haneke, The Descent (2005) dir. Neil Marshall, Eden Lake (2008) dir. James Watkins
Emma: Horror is my absolute favourite genre of film so I have the opposite problem to Laura and found it impossible to choose just one. It was super hard to whittle it down but I’d say my top three are Funny Games, The Descent and Eden Lake. And also a special shout-out to It Follows.
Let The Right One In (2009) dir Tomas Alfredson
